Having had dogs purely as pets for over 20 years - German Shepherds and a couple of Border Collies, when we lost our last GSD– Arnie, he was such a special dog we decided it was time to look at other large breeds, as we felt we would always compare another Shepherd to him. A year or so had gone by, when in someone's garden less than a mile from our home this amazing dog was bouncing around - never seen a dog like it and it was huge!! I was very excited by what I'd seen and searched through pictures of dogs to try and find what it was – the only one close was a Leonberger and the write-up was just what we were looking for.
I had to know for sure, so I knocked on their door and yes it was a Leonberger - I met Moses for the first time and my mind was made up - I left with his breeders name and number and started searching the internet, doing lots of homework and gaining information about this breed.
Fortunately for us, we did not have to wait long. In April 06, after 2 hours on the phone and a visit to Debbie Charwin’s home (Debbollinby) , where we spent 3+ hours meeting all her dogs and gaining lots more information about Leonbergers, our minds were made up – a Leonberger was for us and Debbie put my name on the list for a Dog from the litter due in June.
Lennox came home mid August and less than 2 weeks later I went back for his sister - Blaze! 2 years later I have 4, with plans to keep one from my litter due in September 2010 and not forgetting my beautiful adopted girl 'Lara', who doesn't live with me yet and doubt very much it will stop at this!!
